I was so excited publishing my book Soul Ascension, since it was my first one on Amazon.com. The whole notion of having my work available to the world is definitely exciting. However, even with all my enthusiasm, the reality is, giving it life is hard work and time consuming. There are approximately 8 million books available on Amazon and 90% of them sell less than $500 worth in their lifetime. Such discouraging odds indeed, gives any aspiring author pause. But despite these odds, every author dreams of overcoming those odds. Most authors' primary motivation is not the money, but the mere hope that their book is loved by the world. True, the money is the icing on the cake, and would provide the author a means to continue writing, but what is even more rewarding is to see your book read by millions.
The inner circle of family and friends of course were the first target audience, once I launched my book onto Amazon. The first few days, it was exciting to see the sales jump from zero to a few dozens. For every book sold, I felt exhilarated and proud. But at the same time, I knew that this was just pseudo-success. As expected, the inner circle sales faded, as I exhausted my network.
The second week I spent almost $500 on marketing mediums; from Facebook ads to mass email press releases. It is way too early to see which works well and which is a waste of money. This is all, of course, in the optimism of reaching as many people as possible. I feel almost self-serving as I push my book onto others, but I also knew that no one would buy or read a book that they did not know even existed.
I am starting on my third week and submitted my book to site called Bookbub. The testimonials and reviews all indicated that if they picked up my book, that it would definitely reach thousands. Of course, submitting to Bookbub will also cost me a few hundred dollars. The other thing to know about Bookbub is that they reject 80% of the submitted books. So the odds here are once more against me.
I await with anticipation that Bookbub will pick up my book for their site. With a lot of faith, a little bit of luck, and a lot of patience, I hope to be writing in my next blog about my adventures with Bookbub.
Thanks and see you on the high ground!
