A Letter to My Daughters

October 5, 2018

To provide hope to another is one of the greatest acts of love a human can do.  The years go by so quickly and sometimes we leave words that our loved ones need to hear.  This past weekend, I committed to immortalizing my thoughts to my own daughters. This is what I wanted them to hear and to always remember me by:

"To my wonderful daughters. I just wanted to tell you, how proud I am of both of you. I miss you two everyday that you are not with me - but you are always in my heart. Time seems so fleeting, and the moments disappear so fast. I can still remember, you two when I first held you as babies, and now you are both turning out to be strong independent women. I wanted to write this to you, so you both will never forget it. The most valuable gift that I can give you is time. The time to pursue your dreams and the time to really understand that nothing is impossible. It only took me 20 years of my life to really understand this.

Do not let other define who you are. Do not let opinions, make your reality. And despite the difficulties and challenges that will be laid in front of you - always know you can overcome them. You will have to face them head on and sometimes alone. There will be times when you will want to give up, as the obstacles seems impossible. And there will be times you will question your resolve and yourself. Turn away from that. Live in your Heart, and not in your head. I will never promise it will be easy, but I will promise that with time and resilience, you will achieve victory. Just be patient.

So very few truly understand this concept, and even fewer have the unyielding faith to follow it through. Live in Hope and Live in Faith. You both know I am not, nor ever was, very religious. Lately, God has spoken to me in ever small whispers. And for the very first time in my life, I see with clarity and vision. Where ever your path may take you and when you achieve success and greatness - never forget to help each other. And always help others. Be a person of value first and not a person of wealth. Always practice kindness, tolerance, and gratitude.

I will leave you with one final thought. And when you feel like the whole world is crumbling around, simply let God carry the weight and remember this promise below.

“But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33)

I love you both; more than I say, and more than you will know.

Always Dad."
